Before You Begin

Putter grips have a firmer inner core than rubber swing grips, so proper preparation matters. Check your putter shaft diameter, then watch George walk you through the installation below.

How to Install XCONTROL Putter Grips

Putter Grip Installation Notes

Putter grips have a firmer, less flexible inner core than rubber swing grips, so installation requires a little more preparation—even if you’ve regripped clubs before.

XCONTROL putter grips are designed for shafts with a 0.58-inch butt diameter. Check your shaft’s diameter before you begin.

Check Your Shaft Size

  • Narrower shafts (0.54 inches): Some older putters have narrower shafts. You may need additional grip tape to build up the shaft for a secure fit.
  • Larger shafts (0.58–0.62 inches): Larger shafts can make installation more difficult because the grip’s inner core has limited give.

Prepare the Grip Opening

As George demonstrates in the video above, sanding a slight bevel around the inside of the grip opening can help get the grip started on the shaft.

Watch the full video before making any adjustments, and take the time to prepare both the shaft and grip before installation.

Happy putting!
